There are plenty of places to get your clothes washed in Kathmandu, Pokhara and Chitwan. Most places charge by KG. While staying with the local family you will be doing laundry by hand. Some host family have washing machine too.
If you want to read anything whilst in Nepal, you can buy books from several second hand stores in the Thamel area. All of these stores will then buy the book back at 50% of what you paid, and they will also buy books that you brought with you and no longer need.
Really depends how expensive you are! A one liter bottled water cost about 25 Nepali rupees . A good lunch at local restaurant would cost about 500-600 rupees. But if you go to tourist places you will spend at least 800-1200 rupees.
About $100 USD is enough for a month to buy bottled water, sometimes go out to eat in a restaurant, use public transport and socialize with other volunteers. One US dollars is about 125 Nepali rupees.

All major international currencies are accepted in Nepal and can be exchanged at the airport or other commercial banks in the country. Most of the hotels are also authorized for exchanging.
Nepali rupees are the local currency. There are several bank ATM facilities in Kathmandu. International Credit, visa and master cards are accepted at most places which usually incur 3-4% additional tax. Generally, US$35-40 per day is sufficient for food and accommodation in a budget hotel/lodge.
Program fee must be paid beforehand or upon arrival. Fail to pay fee could cause termination of your volunteer project.
Our local coordinator will take you to visit major touristy sites around Kathmandu. Swyambhu Nath Stupa, Kathmandu Durbar square, Pashupati Nath Temple and Buddha Nath are most popular cultural heritage site.
VCD will cover transportation but your are responsible for temple entry fees.
You will be provided few hours of cultural and language orientation before you head to project. Project information will be given in details too.
As soon as our airport coordinator pick you from the airport he will transfer you your hotel accommodation in Thamel. You will spend few night before heading to your volunteering placement.
A VCD Nepal airport coordinator will welcome you at the Kathmandu airport. He would be holding your name plate with VCD Nepal sign.
You can either apply Nepal visa beforehand or get one upon arrival at the Kathmandu airport. The visa process is quite easy and simple. You should apply for tourist visa.

15 Days – 30 USD
30 Days – 50 USD
90 Days – 125 USD
Visa Extension Fee
15 days – 45 USD (3 USD for additional days)
In the case of delay less than 150 days additional USD 5 per day as late fine.
