The Cultural exchange program offers a wholesome experience to understand the real lifestyle of Nepali people. You will get an opportunity to stay with locals and live like locals. Nepal cultural exchange programs are available in urban modern cities to typical rural village. They all are unique in their own way.
As a volunteer you will stay with a local family which is an excellent way to immerse yourselves in the depth of all aspects of Nepali culture, lifestyle, language, food and people.
Nepali people are very kind, humble and have lots of love to offer. This opportunity may change your life forever in a positive way.
Cultural exchange program runs all year round. The duration of the program would be 1 to 20 weeks. The VCD Nepal have 100+ host families throughout Nepal.

✔ There is no specific requirement to join Nepal cultural exchange program. But make sure you are 18years+ or minors should be under supervision of their parents.

Your accommodation will be arranged at local family in a village or within the city according to your preference. You will be provided a private room with basic furniture.
Meals is served 3 times a day. Dal Bhat Tarkari (Rice, Lentils and vegetables) is the most common food cooked in Nepali homes. It is foundation of Nepali cuisine which is served twice a day.
Most of the family have Wi-Fi, western toilets and hot shower within urban areas but village homestay program has limited access of these basic facilities if they have one it’s a bonus to your stay. They have pan style toilet and normal showers. Some families even don’t have bathroom so they go to public tap or nearby river/waterfall to take shower.
Water- You can either purchase bottled water at local tea shops or ask with your hosting family for filtered or boiled water.
Typical day
You will wake up around 7 am. A cup of morning tea is served around 7:30am. Main meal is ready around 9:30am. A cup of tea and light socks is provided around 3pm. Dinner is served about 7pm. But this can slightly be different one family to another.
As this is just a cultural exchange experience there is no rush going anywhere so you can simply take it easy and enjoy your stay. In the village there are always some festival, function going on and your family would take you together to experience these local events and offers you to visit local heritage site or for a little hike.
We strongly advise you to help your family in daily household and agricultural works. It is the best way to immerse in to Nepali culture, learn language and learn how to cook Nepali food. You can also organize some fun activities for family members and village kids. They absolutely love it.
Free time activities- Nepal offers breathtaking adventure activities all year round. So whenever you are free to want a break you can join some activities like trekking, hiking, paragliding, white water rafting, bungy jump, jungle safari etc. VCD Nepal also offers a combined package with touristy actives and cultural exchange experience. We can custom design an itinerary according to your preference.
