Your accommodation will be arranged at local family in a village or within the city according to your preference. You will be provided a private room with basic furniture.
Meals is served 3 times a day. DalBhatTarkari (Rice, Lentils and vegetables) is the most common food cooked in Nepali homes. It is foundation of Nepali cuisine which is served twice a day.
Most of the family have Wi-Fi, western toilets and hot shower within urban areas but village homestay program has limited access of these basic facilities if they have one it’s a bonus to your stay. They have pan style toilet and normal showers. Some families even don’t have bathroom so they go to public tap or nearby river/waterfall to take shower.
Water- You can either purchase bottled water at local tea shops or ask with your hosting family for filtered or boiled water.
You will wake up around 7 am. A cup of morning tea is served around 7:30am. Main meal is ready around 9:30am. A cup of tea and light socks is provided around 3pm. Dinner is served about 7pm. But this can slightly be different one family to another.
As this is just a cultural exchange experience there is no rush going anywhere so you can simply take it easy and enjoy your stay. In the village there are always some festival, function going on and your family would take you together to experience these local events and offers you to visit local heritage site or for a little hike.
We strongly advise you to help your family in daily household and agricultural works. It is the best way to immerse in to Nepali culture, learn language and learn how to cook Nepali food. You can also organize some fun activities for family members and village kids. They absolutely love it.
