Volunteer Teaching Nepal

The Volunteer Teaching Programme in Nepal offers a short-term, community-led opportunity to support English learning in local schools while experiencing everyday life in Nepal. The programme is designed for volunteers who want to contribute meaningfully, learn from local communities, and support existing education systems.

As a volunteer, you work alongside Nepali teachers to support conversational English for children aged 6–14. Your role focuses on assisting in classrooms, encouraging participation, and helping students practise speaking and listening through simple, engaging activities.

Many community schools in Nepal face limited resources and large class sizes. While English is a compulsory subject, students often have little exposure to spoken English, making it challenging for them to build confidence and practical communication skills.

You are not replacing teachers or running programmes independently — you are adding capacity where it’s most needed.

  • Build students’ confidence in spoken English
  • Increase classroom engagement and exposure to new perspectives
  • Support overstretched local teachers with additional capacity

Small, consistent contributions can make a meaningful difference in a school’s day-to-day learning environment.

Nepal Community Painting

Our Community Painting initiative collaborates with local schools, hospitals, community centers, and libraries in need of a vibrant makeover. Often constrained by limited funds and manpower, these institutions require assistance in revitalizing their spaces. As a volunteer, you’ll leverage your artistic skills to paint murals and inspirational messages, with the community actively participating in this creative transformation.

Projects primarily take place in rural Nepalese communities where financial constraints hinder efforts to paint and enhance local educational and health facilities. Urban painting projects, involving community schools and hospitals, are also available. This program accommodates both individual and group participation, operating throughout the year, with project durations ranging from 1 to 12 weeks.

We encourage volunteers to bring educational painting and drawing ideas, particularly those with painting and art skills.

Volunteer at Buddhist monastery

Nepal monastery experience

Nepal, the birthplace of Gautam Buddha, offers a unique and spiritual experience for volunteers interested in teaching and assisting Buddhist monks. Living within the monastery accommodation, you’ll engage in teaching sessions with monks in the morning or afternoon, depending on the monastery’s schedule.

Patience is key, as monks participate in regular Buddhist pujas and classes. Your commitment to teaching will involve collaboration with fellow volunteers to establish a flexible class system that maintains student interest amidst frequent schedule changes. Your impact as a volunteer hinges on your motivation to understand the monks as individuals and learners. The teaching duration is 2 to 3 hours a day, catering to monks aged 6 to 20 years old. The teaching Buddhist monks volunteer program operates year-round, but due to religious ceremonies and pujas at the monastery, classes may be interrupted. Volunteers are welcome to join these religious events. The program duration ranges from 1 to 20 weeks.

In addition to teaching, take the opportunity to organize recreational activities for the monks, contributing to their understanding of the outside world. Be mindful that despite their monastic life, the monks are regular individuals, and your true impact lies in fostering genuine relationships.
