Kathmandu valley and surroundings
Kathmandu is the capital city of Nepal and a home to over 4 million inhabitants. It is a historical and cultural city which is also known as the city of temples. Upon your arrival in Kathmandu your accommodation will be arrange in a hotel Thamel. This suburb lies within the core city of Kathmandu.
Thamel
Most of the travelers who visits Kathmandu lives in Thamel. It’s a vibrant and lively. There are hundreds of tourist eateries, hotels, shopping center, spa, bar and night clubs.
Free internet access in a hotel or in restaurants available. Local grocery store sells daily life essentials like toilet rolls, bottled water, sanitary pads etc. ATM machines are installed in the main intersections. Foreign currency exchange counter are everywhere.
Godawari
A beautiful villages lies by the hill side. It take about an hour bus ride from the Thamel. Godavari village is very rich in natural beauty. There are some amazing sites that you can visit while staying in Godawari village. Phulchoowki dada, Botanical garden, Buddha park, kot dada are most popular site to visit. Shops and internet are available in the village.
Dhulikhel
About an hour drive from Kathmandu city. It’s an old Newari town so you can see traditional building. Our host family and community project location only 10 to 15 minutes away from the city center. Major sightseeing around Dhulikhel are Gokureswor temple and old Dhulikhel city
Kathmandu city placement
All the city placement are 15 to 20 minutes walk away from Thamel. Balaju, Nayabazar, Khusibu are trending now.
Chitwan
Chitwan is located 146km to the South West of Kathmandu you can travel there in approximately five hours by bus or it is only 20 minutes by plane, the Chitwan region is very famous for its National Park, which is part of Nepal’s Unesco World Heritage Sites. Thousands of tourists visit the Chitwan National Park every year for jungle safaris and wildlife research. There is telephone, fax and internet access available and a post office. It is in the warm and tropical Terai region with a fascinatingly diverse collection of local cultures. Your placement can be arranged at a school, health centre, community library, youth club or in an orphanage .Your place of work will be a maximum of 15-20 minutes’ walk from the host family accommodation.
Placement in Chitwan
Torikhet
Small village. It is about 15 minutes by drive and 7 kilometers and far from the main city Narayanghat. In Narayanghat you can use internet and phones. In the weekend this place can be meeting point for the volunteers.
Indrapuri
This placement is next to Torikhet
Bharatpur
Bharatpur is headquarter of Chitwan. All the government office is in Bharatpur. Our placement in Bharatpur is 10/15 minutes away from Narayanghat.
Sauraha
Sauarah is very famous for jungle activities. It is a little town with some nice resorts, hotels and a lot of jungle activities. Your placement is 10/15 minutes far from the down town. You can easily get an access of internet, telephones and bottle water is available almost everywhere around your placement.
Pokhara
Pokhara is a beautiful city on the banks of the Phewa Lake, it is set against the panoramic backdrop of the Annapurna range and the Fishtail Mountain. It is the gateway to numerous treks in the Annapurna Sanctuary Area. The city is well developed with excellent phone and internet access, all kinds of restaurant and a myriad of gift shops. It is 200km away from Kathmandu in the mid-western region of Nepal and sits at an altitude of 900m, meaning a warmer climate than in Kathmandu. To get there takes 6 hours by bus or around 20 minutes by air. We can place volunteers in the mountain areas around the Pokhara valley. The distance from your host family’s home to the project site will be no more than 15-20 minutes.
Placement in Pokhara
Lakeside – It’s a touristic place. We place volunteer around Lake side. In 15/20 minutes walk from the Host family there is an access of telephone calls, Internet and supermarkets.
Seti Dovan – It is 21 Kilometer from Pokhara about 45 by drive. It is small village on the bank of Seti River and Aadhi Khola River. Telephone and bottled water available. In the weekend volunteer can go to Pokhara to use internet and purchase things.
Lang-Tang Region
The Langtang region is very famous for Mountain Views, and is a popular trekking destination. It is about 10 hours and 156 kilometer from Kathmandu. The Langtang region includes the Chinese / Tibetean border, and is one of the most remote areas in Nepal. Volunteers here will have limited access to internet access.
Placement in Langtang
Syabrubesi – It is about 156 kilometer far from north of Kathmandu. It’s about 11 hour’s bus journey from Kathmandu. Syabrubeshi is a little town with some western facilities. It is also starting and ending point of Langtang Trek. There is an access of internet and telephone calls. You can easily get bottled water. This place is little bit expensive then other placement.
Gatlang – It’s about 5 hours walk from Syabrubesi. This is Tamang heritage village. They have telephones but there is not internet.
